If you find yourself in Sarikei, a visit to Hung Kiew Kee Restaurant is an absolute must. Nestled at No. 6, Jalan Berjaya, this esteemed Chinese eatery lures diners not just for its rich history but also for an authentic Cantonese culinary experience. With a phone call away at +60 84-651 480, booking a table is convenient and encouraged, especially during peak hours.
Renowned for its extraordinary "gold coin" dish, this restaurant has garnered a loyal following. This unique offering consists of marinated pork belly, a slice of liver, and a piece of lean meat, all barbecued to perfection and presented in a coin-like shape. It’s more than just a meal; it’s a labor of love that reflects the rich culinary traditions of China. However, be prepared for a substantial price point of RM110 per kilogram, a testament to its exclusivity.
As you explore the menu, don’t overlook the Tomato Waton Bee Hoon, a signature dish that has charmed both locals and tourists alike. The combination of beancurd soup, Hock Chew fish head soup, and a delightful Rojak is a gastronomic journey waiting to unfold. Diners rave about the flavorful fried minced meat, making it a recommended companion to your meal.
While the service may sometimes pace itself, with only a single staff member to take orders, the culinary rewards make patience worthwhile. The ambiance feels reminiscent of a bygone era, catering not only to casual diners but potentially to wedding receptions and events, showcasing the restaurant’s versatility.
As a food reviewer, it struck me that beyond the quality of food, what truly stands out is the comforting notion of community found within these walls. Regular patrons express their fondness for classics like yam dishes, prawns, crabs, and succulent pork leg that mirror the essence of Sarikei's cultural palate. A refreshing glass of fresh pineapple juice should also be on your must-try list—it’s the perfect complement to this flavorful feast.
In summary, Hung Kiew Kee Restaurant is not merely a place to eat; it’s a culinary landmark where tradition meets flavor. When in Sarikei, this restaurant is where you should break bread and experience food that resonates with heart and soul.

Of the handful of restaurants in town, this Cantonese restaurant is renowned for its "gold coin" ; it is a sandwich of a piece of pork belly, a slice of liver, and a piece of lean meat barbecued together, with a hole in the middle like a Chinese coin. It's cost is like gold too - RM110 per kilogram. It's one of the few places that still prepare this dish.

Didn't know (or even see) this restaurant till today. It's centrally located but it's quite hard to recognise as the restaurant is on the first floor with the old signboard. Apparently, it's an old and popular restaurant among the locals. The setting looks like it's catering for weddings or some other events. The service is slow as only one person is designated to take orders. Dishes turned out to be delicious at an affordable rate. I am satisfied.
